Last night, Eric and I went to see John Mellencamp in concert at the Berkeley Theater. What a great show. The highlight was when he told everyone to break out their cell phones and call someone they cared about. Then he said to hold up the phone and he gave everyone a special message. I called Reggie and he didn't answer, which turned out to be lucky because it got captured on his voicemail. I'm going to work to get the voicemail off of his phone so I can post it here for y'all to hear. It wasn't as good a concert as when I saw him ten years ago, but jeez, he's 52 now! Man do I feel old. But he moves around on stage like a 20 year old and he looked great. Plus I love the acoustics in this venue. If you ever get a chance to see someone at the Greek Theater, don't pass it up (just bring pads for your ass if you're on the concrete benches). There's no such thing as a bad seat in that place.
The next concert I'm going to is Chris Botti at the Mountain Winery Amphitheater in Saratoga (another favorite venue of mine). That one is on September 26.
