Not 5 hours later...

RANT ALERT:

So just hours after I posted the last post about the anti-gay rights people heavily funding the favor of this anti gay marriage proposition, I had a couple stop by my doorstep and drop off a brochure talking about preserving marriage for a man and a woman, blah blah blah.  I walked down the street and found them and handed it back to them saying, "I'm gay and I don't appreciate it."  They said thank you and moved on with their misplaced mission of discriminatory hatred.  Politics is all arguments at the dinner table until it really hits home like this.  I was very upset about it for quite a while that day.

It made me wonder, would Jesus approve of their actions?  Basically the entire new testament is about being non-judgmental and loving.  Remember these?

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone (John 8:2-11 KJV)"
"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. (Matt. 7:1)"

So what are churches up to these days?  I mean, in my humble opinion, I believe Jesus would be pretty pissed that his followers are focusing on fighting gay rights instead of minor issues like... say... ending world hunger, or working towards world peace, or clothing the poor and sheltering the homeless.  Don't these seem like much better ways to spend money than denying two people who love each other the right to form a family?  I guess "family values" are only values when the church agrees with your family.

If you're a church goer and you are reading this, answer me this question:  How does the church justify shaping their political participation based upon an old testament teaching when they supposedly are following the new testament teachings?

Leviticus 18:22 clearly states, "Thou shall not lie with mankind as one lies with womankind: It is an abomination."  Seems simple enough and is the basis for most of the anti-gay church sponsored "love and understanding" that gays are subjected to.  Yet Leviticus 11:10-11 states, "And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you:  They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcasses in abomination."  Ever been to a crab feed fundraiser at a church?  God damn you.  Literally.

Ohhhhh.... wait a minute.  You see I'm a little naive.  What I forgot is that when you agree with what the Bible says, you can quote it freely and judge others for not following it but when you disagree (or do the activity in question yourself) then you have to interpret the Bible.  Surely times change.

Sorry.  The whole thing disgusts me.  Using God's name and Jesus' teachings to discriminate against people who love each other is the highest form of blasphemy for a God who does not solve problems the way we humans do.
