So I finally got around to watching Latter Days again.
I have some thoughts about it which I will post in a separate entry but first, I wanted to post a collection of quotes I liked from the movie...
There's a scene when a restaurant owner who is the boss of one of the main characters is crying on a bench outside a hospital. She's just had to have the life support turned off for a best friend. Aaron (Steve Sandvoss' character) sees her crying and tries to comfort her. He says,
"Do you ever read the Sunday comics? The comic page? When I was a little kid, I used to put my face right up to them and I was just amazed because it was just this mass of dots. I think life is like that sometimes but I like to think that from God's perspective, life... everything... even this, makes sense. It's not just dots. Instead we're all connected, and it's beautiful. And it's funny. And it's good. From this close, we can't expect it to make sense."Later, this same lady is giving advice to one of the main characters who's heart is broken and who feels very guilty. She says,
"Funny thing about guilt. There's nothing so bad that you can't add a little guilt to it and make it worse and there's nothing so good that you can't add a little guilt to it and make it better. Guilt distracts us from a greater truth: We have an inherent ability to heal. We seem intent on living through even the worst heartbreak."Later, Aaron is describing to the lady what happened to him since he last saw her on the park bench:
"How?"
"Practice."
Aaron: "After we met, I was sent home and excommunicated for being gay."
Lady: "Your church doesn't like alcohol or homosexuals? Well I'm definitely not joining. Can't imagine heaven without both."
