What drives me crazy the most? This quote from Huckabee...
"There's a big difference between a person being black and a person practicing a lifestyle..."
GOD! Please save me from your followers! A lifestyle? Rock stars have lifestyles. Gay people have lives! Jon Stewart hit it on the head when he said that religion is a choice and a lifestyle and is protected. There are gay firefighters, gay policemen, gay garbage men, gay football players. I can't imagine that they all share the same lifestyle, do you? Unless he's referring to sex. But surely he isn't referring to the "lifestyle" of putting my pee pee where "God didn't intend it" as grounds to deny me marriage, is he? If he was, I'd estimate that about 60-70% of straight couples would need to divorce right now!
This fundamental belief (that gays choose to be gay) is a huge red herring used by those opposed to gay marriage and gay rights in general. Think about this for a moment. What he's really saying to black people is, if you chose to be black (i.e. different from me), I wouldn't fight for your right to get married, vote, and not be owned by other rich white folks. Because you didn't choose such a fate, I'm going to be merciful and grant you rights. After all, it wasn't your choice to be different from me. What an asinine yardstick for rights from an asinine conservative party who's lost touch with millions of Americans. I'm glad Huckabee and others like him wear their religion on their sleeves. It makes them easy to spot on election day.
