A Gift for Myself This Christmas

Since I was a senior in high school (20 years now) I've wanted a Yamaha Disklavier piano. In case you're wondering what it is, check out these videos:

There is a feature on this version that allows me to record my own playing and when the video is played back, the piano in the room plays instead of the audio from the recording. To see a demo of that, watch this guy play a piece that normally requires two pianists. He videoed himself playing one part and played it back playing the second part life. Notice that his piano is playing both parts:

This piano has always been out of my reach for one reason or another. Everything from space to money to priorities. This year, the stars have aligned to allow me to purchase one for myself. The timing couldn't have been better because just weeks ago, Yamaha released the latest generation upright Disklavier. This version has an ethernet port literally on board and can play live music streaming from Yamaha's Internet "Radio" stations. It also can play other instruments as well. It has a full sound module on board and can play drums and other instruments with the piano. When I take delivery of mine, I promise to video a sample of that.

So even though selling my Vette represented a step back for me in terms of my bucket list, this purchase is a step forward. I will likely have this piano for the rest of my life. I'm looking forward to many happy memories and a great new hobby that doesn't (directly) involve a computer heheh.
