I'm feeling very emotional at the moment. After watching the video below, I was touched by so many of the characters' testimony. They captured what it's like to be gay perfectly. If you're a regular reader of my blog, you know that I'm in a relationship with a man I love dearly. We have been denied the right to get married in California because of Proposition 8 passed by the voters. The case went to court and was videotaped but the defenders of Prop 8 fought to keep the tapes from being released and have succeeded. The reason they fought so hard was because their case was almost comedically inadequate. So a screenplay based on the court transcript was written and some incredible acting talent volunteered to do an on-stage reading of it. Some of America's top acting talent in fact. Martin Sheen, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Bacon and so many more. The result is a 90 minute stage reading of that screenplay and it's worth your time. I've linked to it below, but if you've got a nice machine or a way to stream to your TV, YouTube is offering an HD version of it.
You may be thinking, "Didn't that just get ruled unconstitutional?" Yes. Twice. Once during the trial this screenplay is based on and just recently reaffirmed by the 9th circuit court of appeals. But the fight goes on. The proponents of Prop 8 have promised to take it all the way to the supreme court and it looks like that's likely where it's headed. That's where you come in. Spread this video. Email it, send it via messenger pigeon, horseback, smoke signals, tell your friends on the phone. Get them to watch this video. The world changes one mind at a time. Your support means the world to Jesse and I. Someday we hope to be able to tie the knot. Please watch and post a comment to let me know what you think!
